Add Vector Input to Image nodes (Compositor)
Recently noise nodes were introduced into the compositor and they have vector inputs so (as an example) one can utilize the Position Pass and have effects be stationary to the world position.
But Image nodes don't!
This could be an alternative to the "map uv node" which is cycles only
You could assemble an entire texture in the compositor like you would with a bsdf but now multiplying with all the passes.

Map UV Node works regardless of engine, so it is not Cycles only. You can use it with Position pass to achieve similar mapping of Image as generated 2D Texture, just do not forget to restrict Position (with Wrap for example) within 0-1 range for X, Y components and 1-1 for Z component (since it used as alpha in Map UV Node). Also, better to adjust aspect ratio and position of the vector for Image with Victor Math Multiply Add.
With EEVEE you just do not have access to UV render pass to work with UV Node. But you can either output UV info directly on the surface of the Material (mind samples) or use Shader AOV pass of Color type (currently for Dithered materials only).

Glad to be of help!
agreed, it should be unified across all of blender, to reduce confusion. the default can be adjusted to match the current behavior
