save Render Result in the .blend

hello

today iv'e done a 12h long render

iv'e saved my blender file thinking i could composite my render after my lunch

when reopening my file my render was gone

and this is supposed to be normal ?

(even if all my external data are packed automatically inside of the .blend and i clicked on fake user on the render result before closing the soft ... this was kind of a really idiot loss)

can someone tell me why render result are not automatically saved into the .blend file ?

@dodododorian Hello mate, i feel with you on this one. Had a similar issue with a project of mine. What helped me is to include the switch node into the compositing tree and render out to .exr.

Switch

So i could quickly switch between renderlayers and the files on disk if needed.

Which was a fallback sollution to the initial idea of using the output node to write every render as exr to disk and pick up the latest file using the image node.

that was back in 2.79 and two things stopped me:

  • was unable to get the output node to write the multiplayer .exr file to disk via the output node in compositor. (Was unable to trigger that node tree - F12 / render / render animation...)

Output node

  • did not know how to tell the image node to pick up the latest .exr (render_v000n.exr) by using wildcards or such things.

Let me know if you get that working in 2.8, would be awesome :)

Take care and have a nice day \o/
