Push & Pull / Destructive Extrude / Qmesh Zbrush - Light - Object Projection for texture painting
Basically its 2 suggestions.
The first is a Push & Pull / Destructive Extrude, Qmesh Tool. I guess there is not much to explain as the dev team and most people know what that is. I am aware that there are addons for that, but apparently they do bug, do not function properly at times or not at all due to updates.
Second suggest is:
I wonder if it's possible (Almost sure it is) to use an actual light object and then project it as a flat color / texture paint onto the mesh. Basically a conversion sort of thing which would take away the work of painting light from scratch and provide a realistic result fairly quick. There could be a masking option to mark crevices or other necessary feature to simulate a basic light emission in order to simulate light where there is no actual geometry.
It wouldn't take away all the work, but be a huge kickstart when it comes to paint light

This really should be separated into individual proposals so they can be discussed and voted up on independently.
