Influence Guides for Retopology

The new retopology system is great and much better than before, but I believe improvements can still be made to speed up the process. Insert standard, not a coder disclaimer, not sure if its possible, yada yada, just an idea.

I would like to propose an influence system to be considered when calculating the retopology of a mesh. Some thing that helps achieve similar results to what was used in the instant mesh interface.

Ideas for influence guides:

Sculpt masks: Using the sculpt mask information may allow the algorithm to detect lines of influence to direct edgeflow or possibly even loops, for example around the eyes, or mouth of a head model.

Grease Pencil Style: Much like the instant meshes default user interface, the ability to draw directly onto the 3D model.

Interface Design

Toggle Checkbox: A toggle box saying, "Use mask/influence guides as retopo guides"

Possible compiled with a slider to choose how strict the retopology process will pay attention to the influence lines.

Sorry, cant remove the duplicate image, I get a 404 error when trying to remove the thumbnail.

There's actually already something like this in the Quadriflow code (it's based on Instant Meshes ) and I know I've seen activity on developer.blender.org about implementing guide to Quadriflow in Blender. It's in development but I don't know when it'll be done, Pablo Dobarro's recent commits have mostly been vertex color paint for sculpt mode (i.e. poly paint), new pose brushes and performance tweaks.

* @Josephbburg * I did see this: developer.blender.org/D6158 . It seems like its kinda of stalled in Nov '19.

Is there a way to prod, or poke the subject to be finalized?

* @troybowen * It's kinda annoying to remind people to work on stuff. Asking for a "what's the status" might be OK, though.Pablo Dobarro isn't idle and I think they're just waiting for sculpt to be a little more robust and stable before adding more features.

* @troybowen * Hey, I didn't notivce this earlier but that task is tagged for 2.82, which means they're aiming for a 2.82 release. It's not a guarentee but that's their goal.

* @Josephbburg * 2.82 is already in bcon3, which means no new features only bug fixes, so the patch might not be in 2.82

* @rc12 * Yeah, it might not be in there, but the feature has already been written and it's the second half of a feature that's sort of incomplete right now, so don't think bcon3 will prevent it from getting in. I think maybe time constraints will. Let's wait and see!
