LGPL licence for the bge

For those who do not know, the GPL license states that anyone who distributes work on or from the code, you must also freely distribute the source code of their work. But, the LGPL: A program that contains no derivative of any portion of the Library, but is designed to work with the Library by being compiled or linked with it, is called a "work that uses the Library". Such a work, in isolation, is not a derivative work of the Library, and therefore falls outside the scope of this License. I say that if any developer could monetize a game made with BGE, have more eyes on the engine, to enhance their development and donate part of the proceeds to the foundation. And... Thats all.

p/d: Please don't hate me if you don't like the idea.

A nice BGE could be the solution for not asking money again but the future seems to be another... and that is a pitty.

Yes, the LGPL, or one of many other, more liberal licenses would be a better fit for the BGE. However, Blender is old enough, and has had so many contributors over the years, that it's simply impractical to track them all down and get their consent, even assuming you could convince all of them.

BGE will be removed in blender 2.8 entirely. If you want make games with blender use Godot or one of dozens other foss engines. Most of them are far better than BGE and have permissive licenses.
