Render Queue For Blender

Is there any real particular reason why blender doesn't ship with a simple render queue system

The tutorial below shows of off how opensource 20+-year-old 2D animation software OpenToonz ships with its user-friendly render farm. Super simple to use.

So why not Blender? Perhaps there can be a happy merger of the 2. or Blender could adopt OpenToonz simplicity.

arent there many render queues addons ?.. i wrote myself a super simple script which just renders all view layers of a scene , on after another (unless they have a "~" prefix)

but there are more sophisticated addons for that too , even node based apparently .. youll find some on github and blender artists ..

not a good fit to ship with blender imho or maybe as a packed addon but many people have different post pipelines and theres no fit them all solution. blenders render system with scenes , view layers , collections etc. is also quite vast .. add frame rate ranges and stuff like that and its gets more and more

Addons should be for niche functionality, not core stuff.

But most addons are not niche at all, like node wrangler. Some of them are actually quite core functionalities, like Cycles.

Your right? Does that mean we shouldn't aim to make something even better, simpler to use that can mature, and become legacy?

what i was saying is : you can easily code your perfect(for you) render queue yourself

FreeMind

The core fuctionality of node wrangler should not be an addon...

I always wanted to have a render queue like the one in Cinema 4D or like Adobe Media Encoder.

Somewhere I can add all my project and render them out at night or in the background while still working in Blender.

So I made one myself, it's called "Blender Render Queue" (easy I know...)

opencue.io/ Try this if you really want a Render Que.

If you're at a point where you would need to do queue rendering then this is very simple: docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/advanced/command_line/render.html the opentoonz just adds some basic file selection GUI to it otherwise from what I see in that screenshot it is still just a command line. I feel like editing a .bat file is faster than reopening blender and all that stuff.

But if you really want it in Blender I suggest that you provide a mockup of how the UI would look in Blender (not how it looks in other software but how would you do it inside of Blender with its own design rules) since that would be the hard part for the devs since coding it doesn't seem super hard.

But also how does this look on render farms? should the blender queue manager just create a .bat file or would launching the original blender file in which it was created start the rendering? at that point the core starts to change a bit.

So I wouldn't have this as a priority because the alternative isn't really that slow/ in some cases it can be faster to copy paste stuff when typing it...

Great ideas. From an animation artist and designer's perspective what your talking about is cosmetics for Blender.

Anyone that has designed their own web page knows the basic structure of a page and how it works.

It's similar to Disneys' idea of gestural drawing to capture the movement and from there you can put any character over the top.

If devs haven't got their guidelines written down and they don't know how to start from a basic sketch or template there is a real problem.

As for how does this looks on a render farm. I am not qualified to speak about that. I would love to see what you come up with. It sounds like you have a mountain of experience.

What I was presenting is a launchpad for ideas. A template. A starting point that's opensource.

Let's try to keep this open and not roadblock it.
