Support Undo for View Change

After using 3ds Max for some time, I've come back to Blender. One significantly useful feature is the ability to undo the viewport change (Shift+Z). I find myself often navigating into some strange space, and it would be helpful to hit the hotkey (maybe even Shift-Z?!) to just step back in time for what I was looking at.

PS.. this site needs a search option.

Cheers!

I'm in the same boat. It's one of these things you don't want to miss once you have them. When I tweak a model from a specific angle for a while I have a mental image of the vertices and edges and what I plan to do with them. Accidentally changing the view makes me loose that "train of thought". Is this already implemented or didn't find much agreement? 4y old post... :D

I would find it useful only when in camera view + Lock camera to view enabled (afterall you actually make a translate+rotation of the object 'camera')

Currently <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>Z</kbd> is already bound to toggling the Render view mode in the 3D View... so probably a different hotkey would be needed.

This might be possible to do with a Python add-on that creates and stores a temporary transform orientation with every view change, but I can imagine that a history of view changes could start soaking up memory. Would it be acceptable just to be able to toggle between the current view and the previous one?

Hope this one will make it into Blender! Many other 3d apps have it. Setting up the viewport can be some effort, depending. Loosing a carefully tweaked VP camera by accidentially navigating it is a nuisance.

Regarding memory usage: there could be an adjustable view undo stack size, just like for the regular undo. Besides, I tink the memory needed for storing a view is neglectable.
