REQUEST- Particles: Do not save temporary cache with Blend file.

At the moment if a particle system is played, a cache file is saved in ram. BUT this ram cache is saved with the file so can make file sizes HUGE.

PLEASE don’t save particle cache with file.

Hmm. As I see, cache is not exist if file reverted. Are you sure?

* @ Vyacheslav *

  1. Make a plane and add a particle system
  2. Save the scene
  3. Play the animation and save again with a different name
  4. Compare scene sizes

* @ED * Okay. I see. You are right. Ways to get rid of this cache now:

  1. jump to 1st frame, save, revert, save again.
  2. use disk cache
  3. Drag and cancel. Cache cleared now. Save.

But I agree, that user should have an option to save or not temporary bake-cache.

Yes: cache saving should definitely be at the users' discretion.

There should be OPTIONS in the preferences:

[_] Always Save particle cache

[_] Never Save particle cache

[_] Ask whether or not to save particle cache, (with added info about how big this will make the *.blend file)

--An even more controlled refinement is "[_] Ask whether.... if the cache will increase the file size by [nnn]%", and/or "...increase the file size over [nnn] megabytes."

* @jeric_synergy * I don't think an option is necessary since you can bake it if you want to save.

jeric_synergy

* @ED * , does baking do anything silly like remove parameters? Otherwise, yes, you're right. But if baking changes anything....etc etc.
