Rotate the 2D uv image editor

Hello, sometimes when painting a texture in the 2D view, it would be awesome if it would allow the canvas to rotate like most 2d softwares allows, so you can get the perfect stroke direction. Now that on 2.8 will allow multi editing, perhaps it could have a button on the ui that creates a plane with the same material as the object and constrain it to the view in a way that its only allowed to rotate perpendicular to the view, could be a way to solve this. the thing is that sometimes to paint in 2d view is more usefull than on the 3dmodel itself, but not being able to rotate around the image is a disadvantage of it. i made a simple image of how it could look like if its hard to understand my post.

Something like Photoshop : You Press R (when no UV island is selected) then left click and drag outside UV area(s) to rotate the UV canvas. That would be darn useful indeed.

What would be the control for rotating the view?

@Jason van Gumster: It could be the same comand to rotate the 3d view, but just rotating in one axis

@Craig Jones: and it could be the exact same behaviour, you use the combination of keys to rotate the canvas around its center, or if you use the numpad, it could rotate in increments of5degrees, if you press 4 or 6, as it is on the 3d view, since its a 2d view, you could reset it with 5, and use 3 and 9 to rotate 90 degrees, i dont know how hard it would be, but would be super awesome if 1 and 7 would mirror the canvas.

@andrekling: on my config, you rotate around the 3dview with midle mouse button, and pan with shift mmb, but on the 2d view, you pan with both comands, it could use the same behaviour as the 3d view, mmb to rotate the canvas, or what i woul suggest is to use shift mmb, to rotate, since it would be a less disruptive to the workflow
