The ability to detect the current view layer inside material nodes

Currently, to change the material of an object depending on the view layer you have to make new collections, duplicate the object and duplicate the materials. If the material is used for a particle system, you need to duplicate the emittor, dupli, particle settings and material. This makes it a nightmare to make changes to such a scene, since they have to be manually duplicated across objects in different layers.

It would be great to have the ability to detect the current view layer via an info node, similarly to properties like the object, particle and material index.

Jonas

so you want to change the shader depending on the view layer? like a material override? here is a similar topic : blender.community/c/rightclickselect/lGgbbc/

Also to detect if the render will take place in Eevee or Cycles or...

* @jwversteegh * you can set your material output node to evee, cycles or all. So you can have multiple shader outputs depending on each renderer. Maybe this helps?

* @Jonas Bruckner * I see lots of movies how to mimick thins of cycles in eevee. That mimick can be overridden when rendering in cycles. By having a node that outputs which renderer is used one can mix values to get renders which are not dependeble from the renderer.
