The Video Sequencer is in dire need of a footage looping feature

There seems to be no easy way to loop footage in Blender. The only ways I know are:

  • Say I only want to use Blender's 3D camera for my 2D animation that I've drawn and exported with another program, I can import the image sequence as texture for a plane and use the Cyclic feature to loop it.
  • If I only want to just loop it, I can do so by using the Cyclic feature of an image sequence input node in the Compositor.
  • Then render the looped part of the image sequence.

Either way, there's no direct way to just loop an image or movie strip in the Video Sequencer, which kind of sucks. If I want to loop footage, I have to keep rendering more frames into files first with the two methods above. I could theoretically just add a scene strip that draws footage directly from the renderer or the Compositor, but I'm having a hard time previewing or rendering the final movie again in the Video Sequencer. I've tried to do so on an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 card and it still won't work, all the preview shows is just a glitchy gray color. So the only way to get any preview or render in the Video Sequencer, which doesn't have a looping feature, is to loop either with texture or in the Compositor, then render that loop into files, which is all a pain in the neck. Looping shouldn't be that hard to implement, considering it's kind of a basic feature for a video editor, right?

There's this script ( archive.blender.org/wiki/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts/Sequencer/Loop_Media/ ) as workaround, but I haven't been able to make it work with 2.79 or 2.8, or been able to identify which exact parameters it uses to replicate how it loops. Even if I did, it'd still be way too much work and manual labor just for a simple loop of footage that leaves barely any room for flexibility.

I hope the Video Sequencer will get a looping feature soon, because as it stands right now, I'm way better off editing with Premiere Pro, or even with other compositing software like After Effects or Fusion in Davinci Resolve, or even friggin' Adobe Animate.
