In edit mode, allow using the object mode's median point as pivot center

That is something that I think Blender is lacking and yet still needs such feature. I can snap the 3d-cursor in object mode to that position, but I think the original median point would still be very handy in some situations.

I'd love to see this. Especially when modelling buildings or symmetric objects you want to move or rotate around your object center. Allowing us to use the object origin allows us to use the 3d cursor for other things. It is a bit annoying to have to exit edit mode everytime you want to put your 3d cursor at the origin and then go back to edit mode.

What advantage does this provide over just using the 3D cursor as you've described?

No need to go in object mode to snap the cursor.

Ah, OK. A convenience thing. Probably wouldn't be too difficult to add.

Yeah. Also, it's kind of weird when you in object mode rotate the object and it rotates from the pivot point, but when you in the same mode rotate in edit mode, blender creates a "new" pivot point for the object.

I think that is a slightly different thing, though (and, for me at least, it's not that weird. With that default setting, you're rotating around the median point of what you have selected. In edit mode, you have individual elements selected, so it's natural for the median point to change.)
