Looks like motion trails, but with chocolate on top.

* It's way more than that. Other software that has editable motion paths always require to add keyframes which leads to less smooth paths and a more cluttered graph editor. This not only removes these issues but apparently also makes IK deprecated. It's not chocolate on top, it's a whole other cake.
and what's your proposal here? just copy and paste this research paper into blender without a proper design???

This looks like an awesome system and much closer to emulation traditional animation in the 3D space. If Blender could integrate a workflow like this into motion trails that would be all sorts of awesome.
Especially using the character rig without the need to set up IK and FK chains and such while still maintining that level of control looks
super
nice.
How far ist this research?
Is it an open project or a closed one?
Can we set up a proposal for Blender's way of implementing a similar system?

I think constrains along curves in Blender are already possible, but autocreating curve in time is not

@ Vyacheslav
* you have go gro through the paper. I think no software currently has the possibility. otherwise this research wouldn't have any benefit.

* I don't think so. Making trails from motion is not something new. Damping to curves aren't too. But Disney combine it al in the simple and well manageable way.

* I don't think the rigs at WDAS can do it right now.

I guess it could be slightly more descriptive, a solver system which is a lot more flexible than current IK/FK rigs, and editable motion trails. Yes please.

Here is my attempt at recreating this feature, it is not production-ready, but you can have a taste of what it feels like to work with such a system

It's what I meant by chocolate.
i have made similar add-on not long ago , have look youtube.com/watch
Hoooly Shieeeet ! How has this never been done before ?
* @Caetano Veyssières * There is a new software that is very similar cascadeur.com/ but i think Blender guys can do it much better. :D finger crossed.
Have a look at this addon : Editable Motion Trails 3D

Amazing!!!!
Just wonderful
nice for you! what you wrote is not a proposal!
