Could Object and Edit Modes merge?
As a long time 3D developer and artist, but a relatively new user of Blender, I find myself wishing Object Mode and Edit Mode were one. With my not-yet-complete knowledge of the Blender way of doing things, Object Mode seems as though it is mainly an easy way to transforrm/select full objects and add additional primitives that don't exist in Edit Mode's Add list. If there aren't any specific features forcing them to remain separate and it wouldn't cause a complete code rewrite, could they be merged if the new combined mode had an easy way to select complete objects (e.g. double click)?

This would make the whole software totally unusable in my opinion. When i started Blender years ago, i didn't understand a single thing to what was happening and couldn't even select something because it was the only software to select with right click. But once you get used to the philosophy, you can't go back to "industry standard". These days, i wish that every software to have as intuitive shortcuts as Blender, and the Right click select. Last time i saw a user complaining about having hard time to select a bone under the gizmo... because he was using the left click setup of blender. Living the full blender experience is HARD at the beginning, but totally worth it, including the Right click select.
There are reasons what it's like this.
What would you consider a "complete object" in your mode? Just each connected shell?
In edit mode you can hover over a face/vert and press L to select all components connected to the hovered component.
You can also select a component and press ctrl+L to select all connected components.
