multires level select modifier
Often there's a need to sculpt a high res mesh but feed some modifiers the lower res version for performance reasons. Examples would be simulation, armature and geometry node modifiers.
I propose a "multires level select modifier" which can be placed anywhere in the modifier stack. All sculpting would still take place on the existing multires modifier at the top of the stack, but this new node would allow the level to be changed after modifiers that need the simple mesh for performance.
I know one solution would be to bake and use the high res normals on the low res mesh, but with game engines now becoming able to work well with high resolution models, it would be nice to cut out a ton of work and keep the highest fidelity without performance penalties.
Obviously only modifiers that are limited to changing the position of vertices would work properly between the multires modifier and the multires level select modifier. Although modifiers that add geometry should still be allowed, as the results can often be interesting in other software when the element indices no longer match up with the original mesh.
