Soft body presets in blender?

Could blender have presets for soft body like a preset for metal, plastic, jello and so on? That was you could set them up much faster?

Your best option here would be to create those presets yourself and then pitch them here or on developer.blender.org .

Presets are one of the great places where artists can actually make meaningful contributions to Blender's development.

* @Jason van Gumster * How could we make a preset that we can publish ? I'm trying to learn to develop Blender, this kind of thing might be an easy way to start. It looks like blender development is done by submitting patches as diff's . Could you point me to where I should go to learn about this?

* @Josephbburg * There are a couple ways to do it. The simplest would probably be to configure a .blend file with the simulation settings you want and save that file. Offer that as your "patch".

Alternatively, since each physics parameter can by accessed by the Python API, it actually wouldn't be all that hard to write a little Python script that explicitly sets the values you want for a preset. Then you could submit that as your proposed patch. If you'd like, I could probably put together an example of this file for you.

* @Jason van Gumster * I understand that. I was hoping to get some tips on modifying the C code, though. Since I'd like to start developing some features. Vertex Color baking is on my list, for example. If I can start with something simple, that's ideal.

Thanks :)

There could be a way to include the presets for softbody and cloth in the new Blender asset manager, the same way that it is done for materials and objects.

Upvoted, I have struggled with softbodies all my life, there are 30 settings that are documented individually, but not how they intereact, which is all what the softbody is about. I either get complete collapse, complete rigidity, crazy bouncy or the softbody blowing up. Nothing that looks remotely like something real life. I have for the last 12 years tried to do balloons filled with water with Blender and so far could not manage it. Presets would be super important, as they would allow a newbie that is not an expert in material sciences to create softbodies (knowing how a material behaves, what springs are, compression, stretch, bend, flex, shear, tear, dampening, cross springs, goal value for springs, initial expansion, max springs, min springs and so on, it is endless) I'm not the one that can give these presets, I can't make it work. We need an expert in this, a genius that can visualize it all in their head, all the values and tweak the right one. I tweak one and it is always the wrong one and the object then blows up or something complete crazy. Just the preset of soft rubber or leather would be great.
