VR *IS* a big issue on 2018 - Can Blender adapt it?

blender.stackexchange.com/questions/91498/how-can-i-view-my-scene-using-the-oculus-rift-cv1-and-the-openhmd-branch-of-blen

Today I saw Quill working. And I thought the SDK can be implemented (oculus sdk) into Blender. Please rank this proposal by voting. The very first complete 3d animation software in 3d to work in VR space. Blender stack gives a clue and the branch is on graphicall. If a "tracker" was implemented, why not a VR environment using the Oculus controls? They are pretty complete (button saavy).

Me and Severin are currently redesigning the VR implementation for 2.8 using OpenHMD, this took a bit longer then we anticipated, also due to the 2.7 to 2.8 change. Design documents, proposals and development code will appear over the next 6 months if all goes well.

@Joey Ferwerda: I am really curious about the controls in oculus, could all those joysticks, trigger and buttons combinations be ported to Blender commands and viewport manipulations?

VR is an additional, accessory, expensive input tool that only a very few people can afford, use and even "need".

What to you mean by "VR IS a big issue on 2018" ?

For now, you just look like you've seen a cool thing on the Internet and you jumped here without further thinking and pretending it's a must-have for Blender in 2018. It doesn't really help anyone.

@loic.dautry: Guess you haven´t read what Dalai has been doing for the past 2 years. Now he is with the devs in Amsterdam. Do the math.

luciano

@loic.dautry: well it's just an other thing where DCC´s play a big part on, and the VR madness is settling down and becoming a "thing", a market, and DCC apps need to be "ready" to create assets for them, as for blender I think it would be great to be able to do a few things out of the box in vr, like view a scene, use the grease pencil or sculpt tools like you would in Quill, AnimVR, or Medium, would make planing and working on VR projects with blender a total blast.

@3dcinetv: Yes, do the math :

VR is an additional, accessory, expensive input tool that only a very few people can afford, use and even "need".

I'm not saying it's useless, just that it doesn't look like something as much needed and important as plenty other things are in Blender like display performances, Cycles render times & industry features. Yet your title is selling it as is and your post doesn't justify it nor actually explain what to do, how and why (which is supposed to be the very purpose of RCS).

So if you think something is needed here, you should provide more than "do this thing because it looks cool". Otherwise, it's just another random bottle tossed into the sea of RCS.

@loic.dautry: oh for sure, agreed on that, there is many things to tacle, but not let it be forgotten.

@loic.dautry: how expensive is $300 of hardware? oh wait, I know a brand new phone wait, thought it was a fad. irony

@loic.dautry: gosh... I don´t ever use the word "cool". At all. That´s your mention. Not mine. VR tools for Blender are needed, if you could please do a little research about market trends...then we can state other useful conversational paragraphs. I am not going to state the obvious for you. Do research.

Lauloque

@3dcinetv: If you answer such "do research", you missed the point of RCS.

this isn't a proposal, you're definitelly not the first one nor the only one that has been inspired by this. I really want to see this happening too. But if you're going to put it here, you have to be super specific and how would it work in blender? other wise this is more for blenderartits.org .

Dear Santa Tonclaus please make my thing!

Wait, this isn't how it works ?
