A reliable way to undo or cancel if a computer gets locked in a freeze
I just recently typed a high number using the compositor dealing with depth and I heard my computer kick up the fan and freezes and I can’t even ctrl+alt+del. This also happens if I set a silly variable like scrubbing to far accidentally. In other software, anytime when something like this happens, it would easily understand that the software is frozen with a brighter fade overlay using windows and I have the ability to press esc to close it without locking my pc. I wonder if that’s something that can be looked in. Blender did killed my last PC and had to hold down the power button that might had fried it, so I’m being very careful now, but there are many nodes if not knowing when typing a large or small number can be too much for thr gpu to handle.

Agree, I've had it freeze my entire pc so many times at this point. There should be internal locks or warning messages.
I am not an expert and so I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure even putting billion values in Blender should never fry a conventional non overclocked computer. That's the point of blender freezing, the computer is never supposed to let himself be fried by any overdemanding program. That said, yeah, a switchable stupid value catcher could be great, but it would probably be difficult to implement and imperfect. I don't have enough technical knowledge to know if this could realistically be implemented in any meaningful way or if it's worth the effort with the already very functional autosave feature avoiding any bad loss of progression.
