Mapping the right click to brush size/strength in the paint mode (PAINT MODE ONLY)

Yes. First things first, I am proposing a solution from another application (3Dcoat). The only thing that made me do this video was the realisation of the unmapped right mouse click in PAINT MODE (and paint mode only). My proposal also involves the implementation of brush alpha visualisation. Please see the video. Sorry if this has been propsed already.

The problem is that in weight paint mode, right click is very useful to select bones. I would suggest using left click with a modifier key instead.

@Caetano Veyssières: Hmm, I get it, maybe using alt+right click in that corner case for resize/strength adjustment. But that should be indicated somewhere. I'll be honest, the brush engine is universal, but maybe it's also universally missing out on a very common mouse function (the right click). What you mentioned is kind of a corner case (an important one of course!) that's why the alt+right click could solve the matter. Thouhts?

@Adam Juhasz: or change the weight paint's bone selection shortcut and keep the right click for brush management. Because in texture paint and sculpt, right click is unused, it would be weird to not have the same behavior between those modes while weight paint doesn't fully uses the rmb either.

@Caetano Veyssières: Hey I redid the video mentioning your point! I forgot to credit you! But thanks for pointing it out! I also recorded better audio!

@Adam Juhasz: right click is not unused in any paint mode and the behavior in weight paint mode is no different than in any other mode : RMB is always a selection tool. At the moment it's just less useful in other modes than weight paint because it only lets you select other objects and when you're painting you don't often switch between objects. However I believe it will become more useful in 2.8 as the multi-object editing gets fully implemented. Imagine painting on multiple objects, some brush strokes you want to affect one object, some others you want to affect several and now the right click as object selection gets used more often.

Furthermore, some apps like Krita use Left click & drag with a modifier key (Shift) to resize the brush. I don't see any issue with that and I find it quick & easy enough. Plus doing the same in Blender would add some consistency accross 2 strongly bound free and open source graphics programs.

good point

@Caetano Veyssières: Okay I get your point, for example in sculpt mode right click does in fact select another object. Alt + left click drag could be a solution, since shift+LMB is bound to smoothing. My only aim is to make brush resizing/strength adjustment more intuitive.

ChameleonScales

@Adam Juhasz: You're right, I forgot the smooth shortcut. I agree that F is a shortcut we're not used to if we come from other programs (I would use the word "guessable" rather than "intuitive")

I think the right click is going to be for a lot of things in Blender 2.8. Like box selection which is something very useful. Not totally sure honestly but if they already have it for other stuff they should allow people to assign it to almost anything? Maybe adding a simple icon on the right of each parameter to activate the RMB would be amazing. So people could quickly choose whatever that fits better their workflow.

Yes ! That or anything frequently changed during sculpting and painting. Those two buttons need to be used. On top of that, it's really better for graphics tablet use to reduce the keyboard usage and maximise the mouse/stylus usage.
