[request] File info in File browser
During the last few years and several Blender versions I would like to know which file is saved by which Blender version so when opening it, should I load or not the UI, maybe check the preview.
I have made a mock-up
and got the code from BlenderArtists user colkai Member 5d
import bpy
import os
os.system("cls")
main_path = os.path.dirname(bpy.data.filepath)
baseName = bpy.path.basename(bpy.context.blend_data.filepath)
blendName = os.path.splitext(baseName)[0]
str1 = bpy.data.version
print("MainPath: {0}\nBaseName: {1}\nBlendName:{2}\nVersion: {3}".format(main_path, baseName, blendName, str1))
# Result example: MainPath: X:\Blender_Resources\Colkai_Blends\Hard_Ops
# BaseName: GunStage_A_2.blend
# BlendName:GunStage_A_2
# Version: (2, 78, 0)
I think this would be useful to more people.
What do you think?

And I wouldn't mind waiting 5-10 seconds of loading time if it allowed a few simple interactions with the preview (turn around and zoom)...
* @Alexis Benoit * This would be really great! I think that can also be recorded and saved inside the file so there is no need for real time rendering. I have seen similar things for 3D objects. If only I could do programming. :(
simple screenshot cache folder is what we need to preview those files like in thumbnail... anyway i support this. at least little info is what we needed like what model is that.. Nice one.
* @krimegxen * I think it would be useful even for the LTS and new versions files. There will be most likely differences between the files. When I tested saved files from one version to another I realized it should be mentioned in the name like "The Cube B2831" and "The Cube B290". It's a good thing the assets can be appended from one file to the other.
Would be nice indeed. I reckon it would be nice to have such "details info" on as pany file types as possible too. As regular file explorers do.
* @-L0Lock- * Yes, a browser for the Blender files would be great even if separated from Blender. Yet, the things above would be useful inside Blender and for all the imported file formats would be HEAVEN.
Later edit: I just wanted to let you know, if you need this version information about the file that is opened, you may use the feature already in the program. In the Outliner (Shift F9), change the Display Mode from Default View Layer to Data API. There is a field called Version and if you open the settings there, you will get the x, y and z that are the values for the version and subversion of the Blender program that saved the file. So, the info is there if anybody is also interested about this in Blender files.
