Enable Coloring for Icons in Extension/Addon Development

I love the default blender icons, and sometimes I'd like to simply set their colors in a blender addon I'm writing. It seems like this isn't a thing, and given that the icons baked into blender are intentionally flexible for this purpose in other areas of the UI, it seems like a missed opportunity for addon devs. Maybe even being able to plug the icon colors into the Theme Preferences to specific color swatches, that way its dynamic for users specific setups.
