Crop Tool in the Image Editor
Cropping images is one of the most common tasks in any image-editing workflow. Users frequently need to crop images when preparing textures, setting up reference images, or performing general adjustments. Currently, this requires using an external \\\image editor (like GIMP or Photoshop), saving the cropped file, and then reloading it into Blender. This process is disruptive and inefficient, especially when iterating on texture work.
Introducing a crop tool directly in the Image Editor within Blender would allow users to non-destructively crop images directly within Blender, streamlining the workflow for texturing, reference image preparation, and general image manipulation without needing to switch to external software.
General tool functionality:
Selection : A dedicated tool in the Image Editor's toolbar.
Interactive Marquee : The user should be able to click and drag to define the cropping area on the image.
Resize Handles : The selection box should have handles for precise, interactive resizing of the crop area.
Aspect Ratio Presets : Options for common aspect ratios (e.g., 1:1, 16:9, 4:3) and a free-form option would be nice.
Execution : A confirmation action (e.g., an "Apply" button or pressing Enter) to perform the crop.
"New Image" Option (Highly Recommended): Include an option within the tool settings to Crop to New Image. This would preserve the original file, create a new image data block with the cropped result, and be non-destructive to the source file.
