Rich Text Mode to Blender’s Text Editor.

Dear Blender Development Team,

I would like to suggest enhancing Blender’s Text Editor with multiple optional text modes to better support production workflows.

Currently, the Text Editor is optimized for scripting, but many users also need it for documentation, scriptwriting, captions/subtitles, and project planning. Adding specialized modes would improve these workflows without affecting existing scripting features.

Proposed modes and capabilities:

  • Rich Text Mode: Multiple fonts and sizes, bold/italic/underline, text alignment, basic formatting, import support for ".txt", ".pdf", ".doc/.docx", ".rtf"
  • Scriptwriting Mode: Structured formatting for dialogue, scene headings, and character names
  • Captions Mode: Easy subtitle editing, timing markers, and per-line formatting

Each mode should remain separate from the standard Code Mode to ensure backward compatibility and avoid interfering with scripting workflows.

This enhancement would make Blender a more versatile tool for creative, cinematic, and educational projects.

Kind regards, Bachadam

Because that's the intended use. It's not meant to be a word processor, and/or replace Libre Office.

This could be a good project for the GSOC2026
