Real-time viewport

Hello, i m using blender for 4 years The reason that I can't use it for animation anymore is the viewport. So when I m using the other software of the pipeline, like iclone 8, unreal engine 5, and houdini, they are having zero lag on their viewports, no matter the polygon count, vfx, colors etc. I want to do everything in blender again, but when I m trying to work on a scene, it starts lagging on the first character animation, or smoke effect, or above a few million polygons. Because of this, I can't preview my camera work or animation in general. It is hard to even work in it to do anything. Is there any future development that will deal with that issue? Is there any current add-on of setting that I can use to fix it?

You can try simplify settings from render properties and frame dropping from timeline playback drop menu, but after all that, I also think that Blender viewport is slightly falling behind of some other softwares.

Technically I have no idea how it could be optimized. For example UE is doing some heavy automatic optimizations to the models and scenes. I wouldn't mind if Blender also would be doing that in viewport, but in the other hand, because it's 3d-modeling software, some people might be heavily against of the idea, since it would mean that you don't get what you see.

Maybe some setting that can be disabled?

I use simplify for subd, but it's lagging in the viewport of solid view with no lights, shadows or anything. It's not running at 24 fps after I ll have something like a character animation and 3m polygons. Even the it's interface is laggy, and I have a 13600k, 64gb ram and a 3090. UE5 can do all that, times 10 with lumen at 60fps+

Those things are crucial for the whole animation project, and it was happening in many other applications for many many years now

I did ask from some professional Blender user and they told that if the models are heavy, they use low poly models for animation and then just take the NLA:s from that to the final version.

It sounds like you aren't optimizing your scene, nor using any of the standard tools and methods for previewing your work.

Also, regarding Houdini: there's a good reason it's faster. Look at their finances. They make more in a month (or a week?) than Blender makes in a year.

To be fair to op, they might have been used of the workflow of some other softwares that do many this kind of optimizations automatically. Blender is very manual tool regards this kind of things.
