Unified Stroke & color buttons in Grease Pencil mode,Color Attribute eyedropper, & lock Rotation toggle

Hello there, I hope everyone is doing well.

I just wanted to ask for some things to improve the Grease pencil work space.

In Texture Painting on the color picker, and in the brushing settings there's 2 buttons, "Use Unified color" and "Use Unified Stroke". But in the grease pencil space these button are gone. For the same reasons you would want these options in texture paint you also need them in the grease pencil space. With "Color attribute" selected you could just have the one unified color and with all the "draw" bushes you can just have 1 unified size.

Also this might be a bug but the eyedropper on the "Color attribute" Color picker isn't Assignable to a hot key. I tried adding a custom hot key but it didn't work. Then i tried to remove the shortcut and just lost everything in the menu. finally i tried to copy the python command to make a key map but the command bpy.ops.ui.eyedropper_color() Didn't show up in the Keymap window. I know there's a Gp eyedropper tool but that makes colors into materials. It doesn't pick for the "Color attribute" .

Would it make sense to make the "Color attribute" eyedropper hotkey "S" ? So it samples the same way it does in texture painting mode? ( Or just remappable)

Lastly There's a Common problem with accidentally rotating the view away from the Gp canvas. Especially with the "Emulate 3 button mouse " option on. which is pretty much required if you use a pen tablet. It makes gp harder to use. A "lock x and z rotation" toggle would be amazing. Even if you don't use the gp this could be a useful toggle.

Hey, I'm doing great and hope you're doing the same. In general, you're supposed to submit individual posts for each idea so that the devs know which of the ideas is getting voted on and so that people can discuss one idea at a time instead of having three of them cluttering up the comments.

  1. EDIT: I made an oopsie. This is not correct at all: Sorry, is this not the same as pinning mode for color and material? It's the Pin icon to the right of the color. It pins that color so that all brushes use it. There isn't pinning for brush radius though.

  2. I agree you should be able to put the color picker on a hotkey. There is an option in the GP eyedropper tool to select between picking material and picking palette. If you choose palette, it will add the picked color to your palette. For some reason, it doesn't actually assign that color as the active color and just adds it to your palette if it's not in it already. That's pretty weird behavior ngl and I would like to see that changed.

EDIT: If you hover your cursor over the color button and hit e, you'll get a color picker that will set the active color. That works for all colors in blender as well, for example colors in materials etc

  1. I'm all for locking the view's rotation. I've been wanting this ever since I started using GP.

Oooh I'm sorry i wasn't aware. I threw the lock Rotation thing in at the last moment but i was really just talking about the Unified toggle, And the eyedropper thing i thought might be a bug. Will do it right from now on.

Do you mean the Pin in the brush settings? There's no pin on the color tab is it? That Pin is for a Material , but It's not quite the same. Because you're pinning a Material that has a color you can set. It is separate from the brush itself. In order to change the material color you don't do it from the picker. You have to go down into the material tab> surface settings and change the base color. You can't Pin the "Color Attribute" , that i know of because it's with in the brush itself.

Color Attributes can be changed on the fly from the color picker. Also Each individual Brush can have it's own separate Color attribute and can have it's own separate Material pinned. Which is good but the "Unified Color" Toggle let's you keep the same color among all brushes(in texture paint). So what i mean is for the Color Attributes to Shared among other brushed and even other tools like the Tin tool.

Haha yeah. I get why the GP eyedropper functions that way, because it's a more efficient way of coloring. But it's not very free flowing and Flexible lol.. I'm happy with it but i feel like alot of people don't get what it's for at first. Because we're expecting it to function like a regular dropper. But the logic behind it's behavior is sound lol.

Ohhh i didn't know you could do that but it would be great if you could just press the hot key anywhere.

There's a Add on Called "Wlock pro" But it hasn't been updated since 2.91. Also it Doesn't let you "Zoom Fit" with the grease pencil tools add on. Also i might be wrong but it seems to cause bugs. But makes since because I'm using it on 3.5beta. I really hope that feature is being considered.

Oh man, you're totally right. The pin to the right of the color pins the mode, not the actual color. Whooops.
