Open File in External editor like VSCode or Notepad++ where the Option to 'Edit Source' is offered + Script Editor Recent Files.

When you are interested in the underlying python code say for a particular panel, you can generally hover over a panel/button, RIGHT BUTTON MOUSE CLICK, CLICK 'Edit Source', and then open up the in-built text editor with the correct source file.

Could there be another option here to open into VSCode/Notepad++ or any other editor defined in the User Preferences?

Two Options:

  1. Edit Source. Where the Edit Source option is defined in User Preferences, where it can be the default (as now), or a user option pointing to another Editor or

  2. Another option shown under 'Edit Source', say 'Edit External', again with the editor defined in the User Preferences.

This suggestion is because the Script Editor doesn't retain a list of the last files edited, Keeping a recent file list for the script editor would help.

The option 1 could be easily implementable in Blender, since by design there are already some tasks (image editing and rendered animation playback) where the User can choose whether to use Blender's tool or an external tool:

demo preferences

We could have an additional setting here to set an external text editing software, or let the option blank to use Blender's text editor. And everything that would require to open a text in a text editor would use whatever's set here.

* @krimegxen * Its more specfically to address the last of Recent Files in the Script Editor, but would possibly be usefull as well.
