Proper autosave\backup system
Hello everyone! I think current autosave system could use some improvement. Sometimes you work in a scene that was broken at a certain point but you don't notice it right away and continue working to find out in the end that it's a disaster. With current autosave system you can't actually reverse your work, these blend1 files are not helping bc I usually hitting ctrl+s quite a lot along the way(and they saving next to project that's so annoying, they make a huge mess, can we have an option to save them in a separate folder?). Temporary files also not an option here for an obvious reasons.
My proposal is to create backups system that will save backup of you project every Y minute and create up to X project copies. With possibility to choose where to save these copies, relative\absolute path or separate folder next to project. I'm really looking forward to have this feature, I think it's pretty easy to implement but it's really helpful. Thanks!

* @AnityEx * Might be good! thanks. Although I think it should be native feature
FWIW, I'll have an addon out soon that somewhat helps with the "backup copies cluttering the save directory" issue.
Writing it made me realize that the current save behavior is really incompatible with allowing an addon to change anything about the behavior, which is really too bad. e.g. you can have pre- and post-save hooks... but there's no way to know what file is being saved to! bpy.data.filepath will tell you what the current open file is, but that doesn't change for a 'save copy' and doesn't change until after the hooks fire for 'save as'.
If nothing else is changed, I'd love it if they at least made it possible for addons to have more control over the save process, so that at least addon authors could support this kind of use case (properly)
* @alinsa * Ah I would probably disable this standart autosaving behavior if there were timed ones like I proposed. Is it possible to implement with addon?
YES please give us the option to set a different backup path. Its getting really messy when there are a lot of blender files in the same folder
For the incremental saves I agree that there should be an option to specify where to put them, in the File Paths panel for exemple?
And by the way, you can specify an output for the temporary files in the File Path panel as well {attachment filesPathjpg}
* @Shimoon * Yeah I've seen this option for temp files. I believe there are only three types of temp files - quittting\saving\timer. Which is not enough. Sometimes you need to restore something you worked 40 minutes ago.
