A way to tell which vertices are affected by "hook to new object" command.
When using "hook to new object" why doesn't it create a vertex group or something so you can tell exactly which vertices are associated with the hook modifier?
I had been manually setting up the hook modifier and it wouldn't do what I needed unless I gave it a vertex group.
Using ctrl+h > hook to new object does exactly what I needed but it does not create a vertex group yet somehow it works fine.
I used hook to new object on the eyes of the monkey but there's also one vert from the cheek that was included. There's no vertex group so I can't just remove that one vert. I have to create the hook all over again.
One of these works and the other one doesn't and there's no way to tell them apart: i.imgur.com/LFHfxJe.png
The one that does not work would work if I chose the vertex group I created for the eyeball verts. The one that works just magically works and gives no indication in the UI of how it knows to only apply to the eyeball verts.

This is a weird feature which I'm sure is a holdover from the old days. I expect Everything Nodes will fix this, but I think the modifier should have two options for vertex groups. One for bound vertices, the other for modifier falloff. Maybe they could be combined?
My current workflow is to bind every vertex to the new hook and use the falloff group to control it. I wrote a script awhile back that sets the weights automatically using bones, but it was buggy at the time.
