GLSL shader node in Compositor

Now Compositor is very very slow and limited, it's like a baby synthesizer with 10 built in sound. It is impossible to achieve complex post-processing effects. It would be much better with a GLSL node. With GLSL shaders one can build beautiful filters, effects, transformations, texture generators with smooth framerates. Some examples: blurs, sharpens, edge detectors, motion blurs, color transformators, lens flares, glares, glows, 2D and 3D fractals, raymarched fake geometry, and exotic visual effects. (Check some of them on shadertoy.com )

I found this, don't understand, why is it missing from Blender: github.com/bitsawer/blender-custom-nodes

It would be a game changer.

Shimoon

The entire compositing editor needs overhaul anyways

* @Shimoon Agreed. The entire thing should probably be GPU accelerated by now if it got the right attention.

GLSL nodes is a good idea everywhere. Drawing math formulas with a pageful of spaghetti is a like a cruel joke for anything but the simplest setups. GLSL can also execute as compute shaders, or be trivially wrapped into OpenCL/CUDA with some text/macro preprocessing. Could they easily crash Blender? Yes. But the power is well worth it.

i did this port of the shadertoy node for the 2.8 version if you want to test ;-) github.com/3dsman/blender/tree/shadertoy_node

No one is currently working on the compositing editor. It needs an additional team for design and implementation. Can someone convince some devs from the Foundry to work on the Blender compositor?
