merge actions without baking

after using the nla editor to layer actions into a new animtion, it would be great to be able to merge all of those actions into a new action.

I know we can bake to a new action, but that generates a keyframe on every frame. To keep things light and easy to understand it would be better to just combine them so that only the existing keyframes are present in the new action. The handles would need to be automatically set to correctly emulate the previous result of the layered actions/combine methods.

You need a "smart bake" type operation that is in addons like the animation layers addon but isn't yet in the core Blender toolkit. Noted as a feature request.

Lauloque

What you describe is technically a form of baking. Just one that doesn't create keyframes where there are none in any of the merged actions.

In the meantime, after baking you can select your curves, press X > Clean Keyframes:

clean keyframes menu

Then F9 to adjust the threshold and toggle curve cleaning as well:

I'm afraid that doesn't give the same results. Thanks anyway.
