Optional Push/Pull System for Linked Assets

Currently, linked assets operate on a pure master/slave type of system, where any changes to the original automatically propagate to any linked copies, and no changes can be made to the linked copies except by editing the original or permanently breaking the link.

It would be incredibly useful to have an option to use a push/pull system instead, where changes to the original only propagate to a given copy when a "pull" operation is manually performed, and copies can be directly edited in place, with changes propagating to the original with a manual "push" operation.

"no changes can be made to the linked copies except by editing the original or permanently breaking the link." To my knowledge this can be done by using Library overrides. docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/files/linked_libraries/library_overrides.html

I doubt that adding another system next to the existing one is realistic to add. The impact in the core is so exceptional difficult that it would become unmaintainable. In the other hand library overrides system has already many features you're asking for.

Pushing back to the original object doesn't fit well in Blender principles as you can only change data that is stored in the Blender file you have open. It falls in the same category to push assets to the asset library.
