Materials get Marked as Assets Right Away
It would be great if all the materials you create in a file could automatically be marked as assets (e.g. internal assets). This would enable users to access them via the asset library, with options for dragging and dropping or saving them for another project. Having this feature would streamline the workflow when working in a team that makes decisions together, and of course, for other purposes as well.

Not so much a fan of this solution. We rather need a better workflow for data importance and saving datablocks by default instead of discarding them, as well as a dedicated Material Browser.
Using the Asset browser for this is a bit of a hack and confusing. This should not be a default behaviour in Blender.
I can very much agree with what you said about a dedicated material browser. That would be great. For an in between solution marking everything straight for the library would still help in architectural visualisation.
FWIW ... the topic has just boiled up on Devtalk again yesterday. Like big time. Like 116 posts in 24 hours big time. :D It's still a point of dicussion and I think we might be hitting the tipping point of an implementation finally. Hopefully this time. Fingers crossed.
In general despite some different thoughts about implementation it still seems like the overwhelming majority agrees that this has to be addresed.

it could be done with some scripting to mark all materials of the scene into asset with single click. someone with coding skills can help you.
This could be only for "local assets" or something similar, in the asset shelf at least. When referencing other asset libraries or folders, it can bem really messy.
Right, there could be a section for the ones created in this very project file.
