Add listing and loading assets to the Python API
There are already several data types and operators in the API related to the Asset Browser. However I haven't found an easy way to get a list of the available assets, and then load one of those.

A big part of the asset project is the implementation of some asset system module in core Blender. This would basically be a carefully designed system to deal with assets natively in Blender (whereby assets are high-level abstractions for arbitrary data entities). Plenty of work has gone into this already, but more is needed. Once this at a far enough state, essentially the whole asset system can be exposed in BPY, to give scripts the ability to integrate deeply with the system.
Some preliminary design can be found here: T87235: Asset System: Technical Design
Maybe something simpler can be exposed for now. But I'm quite concerned about keeping compatibility then.
Thanks for the insights, it's great to hear that.
Good request! I'd also like to retrieve a list of selected assets in the asset browser with the Python API.
