Option for automatic advanced measurement entry

it's quite a bit of needless hassle to press the = key every time i go to enter an imperial unit measurement while i'm making something to real world scale.

unfortunately living in one of the few countries backwards enough to not have adopted the metric system means my real world measurements aren't simple powers of 10. so unlike the rest of the world who can easily enough type out 1.15 rather than 1m 15cm, which kind of makes advanced entry mode all but useless, I'm stuck with something far more confounding.

what i'm used to this weird set of measurements where 12 inches = 1 foot, 3 feet = 1 yard... even though yards are very rarely used to measure anything besides (american) football fields, then we jump up to a mile which is 5,280 feet. on the shorter side of things inches are usually split into fractions (halves, fourths, eighths, sixteenths, even 32nds or 64ths if you're being precise) rather than decimals unless you're doing engineering applications. architecture doesn't use decimals.

as you can guess by the seemingly arbitrary units of measure i've grown up using, they don't lend themselves easily to be used as decimals aside from the halves and fourths of inches because seriously, how many people know what 3/8ths is in decimal off the top of their head? what about 5/12ths for when you needed to move something 1 foot 5 inches?

so in the end what i'm asking for would be a checkbox in the scene units settings that makes advanced entry enabled by default for the scene. that way i won't have to keep hitting an extra key after almost every grab or extrude.

+EDIT 2 YeaRs LatER+

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF SUZANNE GIVE ME AN OPTION TO HAVE ADVANCED ENTRY ALWAYS ENABLED!!!

Where I work we build scenes to scale in imperial. Typing in a fraction after pressing G is broken so it has to be done through the N panel like 15"+1/8". The result is unfortunately always a decimal. Also in the viewport when edge lengths are enabled Blender rounds the values. A proper fraction representation is Blender would be a huge improvement. Using decimal with Imperial units does not make sense. I always have a conversion chart on my desk.

i'll be honest with you. i made this post about the time i started working at my current job and i'm still tired of having to press = all the dang time i'm modeling some arch viz stuff for one of our clients. which has been quite a bit recently.
