Here's yet another voice for Blender Metal support
I'm a macOS user, and so many others are too. But we all have to deal with the lack of proper GPU support because of Apple's decision to drop OpenCL. Thus, I propose we try to implement native Metal support.
I'm not a developer, so I do not know how much work will be needed for this, so please forgive my lack of understanding. But what I do understand is the slowness of CPU processing , especially if multitasking. Grease Pencil drawing is laggy and sluggish, UI response slows significantly even with relatively light projects (~1 Mil faces), render times are sky-high (even with EEVEE), lots of machine resources are used for the simplest of things, etc.
Right now, the only way we can use Metal graphics is through ProRender, but with that comes a whole different batch of problems (incl. completely new material system, relatively unstable for 2D, etc.) and I really just want to have the flexibility of Blender's own native tools. I hope that this topic will get more attention as macOS designers are everywhere and a lot of us want to use Blender and utilize it's power. Thank you for reading.

Ask Apple to pay for it then. It's their fault they screw people up with using non standard tech while it's available, easy, and very good. Just for the sake of trapping people in their ecosystem so that they have to keep buying from them.
Also hoping for metal support.
The request is a duplicate though of: blender.community/c/rightclickselect/pPdbbc/ and blender.community/c/rightclickselect/L9fbbc/
There are interesting efforts going on in the following devtalk thread - targeting Cycles in the first place: devtalk.blender.org/t/is-there-interest-in-supporting-a-metal-version-of-cycles-for-macos/4475
I have a dual boot mojave/win10 and I keep assuming I'll edit on mac, load into the PC side and run the render, but I usually just end up running CPU renders overnight where an 8s animation can take upwards of 5hrs to render out and for complex projects more than 15hrs for 5s. Would love to see metal support!
You've got my vote. +1
Yes please!
I think this one is done - code.blender.org/2023/01/introducing-the-blender-metal-viewport/
yessss, upvote for me. I tried RadeoPro, but i got an error and i don' t know how to fix it
Another +1. And let's also attack this from the Apple point of view and request Apple join the dev fund here: apple.com/feedback/macos.html
Seems to have worked out doesn’t it? Curious to see what it will deliver on that Metal enabled 3.2 version.
Yes!! I am desperately waiting for metal support too!! Please developers listen to the Mac community please please.
It’s kind of depressing using the gpu power rendering projects on DaVinci Resolve and then going to Blender and experience a completely different way of working on your projects.
I love blender and really hope metal support was a reality!!
