Node based rigging

I'm creating this post just to draw attention to this conversation: devtalk.blender.org/t/proposal-moving-blenders-rigging-to-a-component-based-workflow/7412/12

And here are my thoughts about that:

Registered just to say that node based rigging is the thing that I really want to see in Blender as a rigger and animator. I assume, only after that’s implemented (and of course it should be fast :3) we could see some big animation studios switching to Blender.

Rigify is great and I use it all the time but at some point I came to a limit. When I have retargeting, interacting with floor/other objects/rigs, animating some complex extreme motions, real-time IK/FK follow, full body IK, etc. For most of that I can create additional rigs and scripts but that’s pretty complex. I want to see the whole rig with all its connections (modifiers, constraints, drivers, children, parenting) as nodes as the whole picture instead of messing with bone layers, selecting each bone to edit constraints, etc.

Creating and adjusting rigs with code is also not so convenient. Again the main issue is that I just can’t see the whole picture due to the large amount of connections between bones and their parameters. It’s getting harder and harder to add new things and relations at some point. Another big question is modularity and ability to easily copy the whole rig (or part of it) and create new one. And of course real-time visual feedback.

So I think node based rigging should have high priority.

I've been working on a new addon for creating rigs with nodes, until they officially implement it ( blenderartists.org/t/rigging-nodes/1238994 )

* @AquaticNightmare * Amazing, thank you!

* @AquaticNightmare * is there possibilities that asset browser could be used to add preset rigs (combine multiple parts like in this modo plugin: autocharactersystem.com/ "assembling rigs from pre made assets.")

AquaticNightmare

* @juhamukari * I hope the drag and drop system gets exposed to python so that addons will be able to do this kind of stuff in the futute. These two tasks talk about it: developer.blender.org/T44670 developer.blender.org/D4071

This is interesting that it's not DAG operated youtube.com/watch

my addon does this! youtu.be/3SweaEBlPn4

modo has this modular rigging - it looks very powerful tool - autocharactersystem.com/ those drag and drop features looks cool. If there will be node based rigging then it should have some library like that modo plugin or blender's rigify (but with asset library integration that will show thumbnails/previews from rig modules/presets/parts)
