Geometry Nodes More Powerful Procedural Geometry And Materials

By now any primitive added through Geometry Nodes cannot be assigned any material, and the ways to manipulate them are very limited, like their only purpose is to supply a scaffold for the instances.

As far as I understand blender is working on this Everything Nodes project because procedural is trending. But procedural is not just about spawning a particle cloud in the shape of an underlying geometry, it is often more about manipulating the geometry itself.

I have used Sorcar but it seems no longer supported. It has got some signature inconsistency with newer versions of blender which you have to manually edit in its scripts. So I hope we will have an official replacement for that kind of functionality sooner or later. And as Jacques Lucke, THE person that created Animation Nodes, is actually working on Everything Nodes project, I sure hope those amazing AN cool stuff can be made official too! (Well maybe as a disabled builtin addon so the system is not getting heavier everyday)

For this moment, there is only two subdivision nodes, no bevel or other goodies, and no reference to generated geometry for use in later steps, which is one of the reasons why Houdini is powerful.

I've always wanted to create real displacement that is as flexible as that in cycles. Because it can then be exported to other softwares, and it is Eevee friendly. This was not possible with the Displace Modifier because there is not as much you can do with the source texture as in the Shader Editor. One will expect that to be enabled by the new Geometry Nodes system, but it has neither a builtin displacement node, nor native support for procedural textures for better control like scale, roughness, position, etc. It now takes me 3 unintuitive nodes to achieve only a minimally adjustable displacement:

There are way more Nodes coming. Its important to get the Node Performance and UX nailed down first. There will be higher level nodes but right now the foundation needs to be strong.

Also you have just answered yourself .. You need to just setup Displacement once with as many Nodes as you like then save it as an Asset / Node Group.. Whenever you need it boom , its there.
