Collections for Bones.
The collections replaced the old layers and groups of objects, eliminating the quantity limit and allowing them to be named. For bones it would also be beneficial to replace layers and groups with collections of bone. As with current layers, the bones should be able to belong to more than one collection.
Advantages:
- Add an unlimited number of collections.
- Name and renaming of collections.
- Subcollections to better organize the bones.
- Color by collection or sub-collection.
- Control for visibility and selection locking.
- Selection, duplication or removal of bones from a collection.
- Even the Pose Libraries, Motion Paths, and Wiewport - Display properties could be assigned by collection.
- Even if there was a Ghost Shading for bones it could also be controlled from the collections.
This idea was marked as a duplicate of Collections for bones..

Yes! My custom rigging Workplace is cluttered with multiple "bone sets" panes: Bone Layers, Bone Color groups, and Selection Sets addon. THREE panels just to select bone groups, insanity. And when in Edit mode, only Layers work, which means working blind: 2001 generation bone selection in 2021.
That's why I didn't bother with Rigify kind of complexity, and rigged my minimalist basic character to have absolute minimum control bones. Please let Blender's new shiny Collection system unify all of the above.
I'm pretty sure this is on the developers radar and will happen eventually. But yeah so needed.
