Mid-way-through Proportional Editing

I imagine a lot of people beyond myself see themselves in this situation: tweaking a vertex imagining that you got proportional editing on, it is just too small and then scroll the wheel and perceive that it wasn't on, and you have to go back, activate it, and tweak again. It's a tiny thing, but quite annoying, especially when you have to do it a lot. So why can't we just press 'O' while tweaking? Or better yet: why can't we just scroll the wheel and proportional editing activates immediatly? I don't think it conflicts with anything else. What do you guys think?

Agree with Josephbburg. No enebling on scrollwheel, but yes to O key. As well as many other actions that I would like to have "live" while transforming. I made my own proposal (a kind of trilogy) in the past on RCS

"Soft Select" is called "proportional editing" in this neck of the woods.

Definitely not with the scroll wheel (would happen too often on accident), but absolutely on pressing O -- Snapping ( ctrl ), axes ( x , y , z ) and math/numbers ( 0 - 9 & etc.) work this way, after all.

I would also say this is one of the many things that makes Blender such a joy to use -- there are "industry standard modelling tools" that can't turn snapping on and off during the operation.

Indeed, <kbd>Shift</kbd><kbd>Tab</kbd> works in grab mode to toggle snap mode on and off. (This also seems to have a bug where it doesn't light up the magnet icon at the top of the viewport until you hover over it to make it re-render.) But hitting <kbd>O</kbd> would be so much more useful, in the same vein, to enable/disable proportional editing.

Looked this up because I wanted to propose it.

Don't want to be the "It's possible in maya so it should be in blender" guy, it's always best to first figure what's best and then decide to copy or not, but well, it's so cool when you can do that.
