Edge select like Face select
In face select, any part of a face within a box selection is selected. This is simple.
Edge selection logic is inconsistent with face select. If only one entire edge is within the box and other edges are only partially selected, only one edge is selected. If all edges are partially selected, then all edges are selected. We always have to be careful that an edge is not fully selected. Is there a good reason to have a different selection logic in Edge Mode? Please make edge select simple like face select (or at least give an option).

3ds max calls this "crossing" and it's an option that can be turned on and off depending on the type of selection you're trying to make. Blender needs something like this for sure.

and yes, I remember similar topic about object selection. with such example: {attachment 33275814jpg}
Never noticed that. But I think, that is the point: when you draw selection precisily, it mean, you want precision. It is okay for freehand. But bad for box. And I agree, there shoud be consistency and general rule for all.
May be an option for all (vertexes, edges, faces, objects…)
