Sync the image viewer with image nodes.
I want to propose syncing the image viewer with the node editor so that it shows the currently active / last selected image node.

And/Or right click the node and click "preview" to open an image viewer window if one isn't already open in the main window. and/or drag the icon next to the file name over to the image viewer.
Or instead of using the image viewer, if there was automatically a large thumbnail next to the fields of the image node.
Or put a large thumbnail preview in the N side panel of the material node editor
