Deferred / offline linked library
In many production scenarios, especially in layout and shot-based workflows, certain linked libraries are not needed temporarily, but they remain a crucial part of the full scene structure.
A common example is a layout scene composed of multiple linked assets (characters, props, environments). When broken into individual shots, each camera view may only cover a portion of the scene. Despite this, all linked libraries are loaded, even if they are not contributing to the current shot — adding unnecessary memory and performance overhead.
💡 Requested Feature: An option to mark linked libraries or collections as "deferred" or "offline", so they:
- Stay referenced in the file, preserving structure and relinking paths
- Are not loaded or evaluated unless explicitly needed
- Help lighten scenes during shot rendering, compositing, or review
This would bring Blender closer to workflows found in tools like Maya, Houdini, Katana which support deferred references for scalable, scene-wide asset management.
