Alpha and contrast control for background images in UV Editor

It would be very helpful to have alpha and contrast control for background images in UV editor.

Many other software have this feature, and it seems like an oversight that there isn't one in Blender (or I haven't found it - please correct me if I'm wrong).

Below are some images I created to visualize this. First image is what you get in Blender 3.1 or older. Second image is a photoshopped version with a background image that has lower contrast and is semitransparent . As you can see, this makes it very easy to read UVs where Blender's way of showing texture in UV view is IMHO pretty much useless.

My student is attempting to solve this issue with an addon as a part of his bachelor's thesis. Check out the git page, or you can download the addon for free on gumroad.
