Save Selected As...

I'm surprised this is not an out-of-the-box vanilla save feature. Would be nice to be able to simply select any mesh in a scene, and be able to save just that mesh as a new Blender file without having to jump through hoops like copying and pasting into a new blank scene (or even using the Save Selected add-on for example - which is oddly only accessible through the Export menu of all places).

That would be realy nice! Just like you can export only selected. To have the same selection box under "Save as...".

There was an old "Export as .blend" add-on that pretty much did this. My current workaround to this is: save current file; delete everything I don't want; do a "Save as...".

Having "Save Selected As..." would require options to determine which datablocks are included (materials, etc.), if they are linked vs appended, etc. Could get complicated. But intuitively speaking, I like this idea.

I find it way better to just mark something as asset and its available to be added in new file (to be linked or appended)

One time I could need it is when I need to send scene file to someone and I dont want my placeholders and temporary objects included. Select, invert select, delete and save as new file works just fine.
