Application Template: enable and set as default when Blender opens

I would like to transform my BlenderFDS ( blenderfds.org ) addon into an Application Template to facilitate the UI customization.

With command-line arguments you can setup a launcher that opens Blender with a specific app template:

blender --app-template my_template

But it is currently not possible to set the new Application Template as default when Blender starts.

I think this is a missing feature that hinders the possibility of using application templates. At least the add-ons when enabled stay enabled.

I suggest adding the possibility to set an application template as default.

Great to see the interest in application templates! Not sure this is desireable, how would you start blender without the template then?

Perhaps it is better to register a custom extension in stead of .blend that adds that template parameter. I am not an desktop expert, but think this should already be doable (with some hacks).

We are still looking for a better solution for this. If you would like to be part of the discussion, reach out to us at #blender-coders .

Do you know about the file template setting function in the settings? cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/340195875399663617/975328350149165136/unknown.png

Do you mean that by saving the startup file the App Template is then default?
