'Extrude Curve' node
It would be really great to have one, right now I'm having to subdivide a two-point curve once, then I move the mid point to the position of the last point and then I have to translate the last point to the desired position. It would be much easier to have an 'extrude curve' node so we would create a new segment from the last point that would follow either the tangent or a custom direction. Is there a reason why it doesn't exist or it simply hasn't been thought/released yet?
In this image, I have a horizontal line in the ground, from which I instanced the vertical poles, then I realized the instances, subdivided the curves, grabbed their mid-point and dislocated to the last point position, and then took the last point dislocated in an angle.
PS: it would be much more complicated to extrude after the 'curve to mesh' node, because you see that the pole get sheared ('skewed') before extrusion.

A visual would help, because based on how I'm interpreting your words this can already be done... So, perhaps you're describing something different.
Done
It would be nice to use geonodes to set a data property like a bezier curve's 'data' pane has in 'Geometry' called 'Extrude' { example of data path bpy.data.curves["BézierCurve"].extrude } I don't think it's possible currently.
