OPTION Node

This is the node I miss the most in almost every project I create. I want to set up a list of available options. Stacking multiple "switch" nodes on top of each other just dosen't do the job.

  • The inputs are universal (based on what you connect), for ex geometry, specific numbers, etc.
  • Output changes based on what you chose
  • Group input creates a "drop down" menu to so the end user can quickly chose only the options YOU created
  • You can create new option just by typing the name

If I understand your proposal you want to be able to create a list of items from the input and pick the output item using an index.

Here is my take on your proposal which I find more Blender-esque: Switch by index

Pretty much, but it should allow you to name the items! So if you connect it to group input the end user can see what's actually available. Your's has index which is just a number and this tells me nothing and reminds me of stacking the switch nodes. Now imagine you created some kind of tree generator. Someone opens it but instead of the actual tree names there are just numbers... This needs to be more user friendly.

100%. This is something I was thinking for a long time. There is a lot of ramifications when creating some kind of list. I wish it was more generic to allow it to be exposed to the stack modifier, more like a "list node". Than all the dropdown menus could be parametric. But I am too lazy to make the proposal.
