Object & Collection Visibility Parameter

Hi every one.

I would like to request a Visibility parameter for both Objects and Collections We allready have one in the Materials parameter., but this also effects all object with the same material. It's ok if you only would have to create 2 or 3 dublicates of the same material.

But having this option for a object would greatly increase blenders workflow. also this would mean that we wouldbe able to see visibility keyframes in the TimeLine without having to toggle "only selected" on and off again.

Adding this functionality to Collections would make it even more flexible. I would like to be able to animate visibility for all object within a certain Collection. For CAD Arch/Mech Viz this would be really awesome.

What do you think?

It's not immediately clear what you're asking for. Where are you looking to have this in Blender's interface? The Outliner already has controls for visibility on objects and collections. Please be more specific about what you're proposing.

Oh I thought I was being fairly clear.

Let me try again.

Basically I'm requesting 2 options. Both related to being able to "animate" the visibility of objects.

1 - "Object" visibility parameter

2 - Option to "Animate" Collection visibility

1 - "Object" visibility parameter: Now I'm animating "Material" parameters to affect the the visibility of an object. Which means that if i have 2 objects with the same material and just want one of the to disappear I 1st need to duplicate the material and apply it to one of the objects so I can animate it's visibility separately making it fade away for example.

  • UI location: Perhaps add a Visibility/Transparency slider in the "Object Properties" panel within the "Visibility" categorie.

2 - Option to "Animate" Collection visibility Now we can switch visibility for Viewport and Render on or off. But I'm referring to an option to actually animate this. So we can animate the visibility for all objects in a specific collection.

  • UI location: Perhaps a percentage slider bar behind the collection in the Outliner

Maybe request 2 clashes with request 1 but maybe being able to animate visibility like in request 1 for all selected objects simultaneously could do the trick, that way you just Shift+G select a object select all object in that layer and just key frame the visibility slider.

Hope this explains better what I'm requesting.

thanx,

jason

* @eztutorialvidz * You can already animate the visibility of an object. To do this, though, you need to enable a few restriction toggles in the Outliner (particularly Enable/Disable in Viewports and Enable/Disable in Renders). With those toggles visible in out Outliner, you can keyframe them by right-clicking them or simply by hovering your mouse over them and pressing <kbd>I</kbd>.

This feature isn't available for collections, though, because it doesn't make sense (objects can be in multiple collections, so if you were to hide one collection, it's unclear whether an object in both should be hidden or not).

Oh nice! never knew. Is it true that I can't see its keyframe even if I disable selected in the TimeLine?

Noted, thanx!

I made this tutorial a while back when I figured out how to do a fade animation: youtube.com/watch

And now I've even made my own Glow/Fade Node group to combine Glow and fade animation for Construction/Engineering purposes

Thanx for the reply, Cheers!!

If you enable Show Hidden, you can see those keyframes.
