Texture display mode

Disclaimer: I didn't find any proposal about texture display mode (which i find weird) so i made my own. If there is other proposal, please let me know.

Shadeless and lit shading

Well i guess i don't have to explain. If we want to show texture as it is we use shadeless and if we want to percieve shape we use shaded mode.

Texture source selector

Currently we have only texture source based on material. It is limitting cause if we wana display perticular texture/map on all models we have to go throug all material and select them in node editor. To make it more faster there could be:

  • Single Texture : Single texture to all objects and material in viewport

eg. UVchecker for UV mapping

  • Per Material : (like currently) To show how specific texture is mapped onto texture
  • Per Channel : To show specific channel is mapped onto all objects. Like Base Color, Roughness, Normal, Displacement, etc

Per channel could be implemented not as simple texture selector, but as buffer visualisation from lookdev, like it is made in UE/Unity etc.

I think this is a great idea and it could make things much more versatile. Not sure if we need another icon up there as the texture selector is already inside solid mode. They would only need to add the options as the color picker appears when selecting color.

@luisburdallo: You mean like that?

Yea, i'm not convinced. Only if there could be a good preset system that would allow create own orb at top. I switch between solid and textured solid a lot, so it would not be best solution for me(and i guess many others) and i would have to make workaround for quick toggle.

@Pawel Piotrowski: I do use as well as many others pie menus and that wouldn't be a real issue as you can switch to any view but I understand some people still don't use them. There is also lots of others options in every single mode and probably lots of other people tend to switch between those too. Not entirely sure how we could please everyone's workflow. Actually, the extra menu doesn't bother me at all. I was just wondering based on me using pie menus if could avoid adding more stuff in the viewport, that's all.

@Pawel Piotrowski: Maybe favorites could allow having the shading settings, acting as presets?

Great idea. One thing I've been wanting is another checkbox (sorry :) ) to make all objects display with a UV grid without changing the texture or material, or having to add a new UV Grid image. Just for viewport display and quickly checking UVs.
