Button to toggle all Addons On/Off

We was talking in blender.chat , and what do you think to have a handy button in Addons section to toggle all on/off, because most of time you have to reset the settings, its easier to switch all on, and then switch off 2 o 3, than activate 35 addons, in some cases could be mildly exasperating.

I was asking on Twitter if there's possibility to have options for Turn off selected Addon, not just Turn on, because it's lot of work, when I have lot of them. I was told they are thinking about this feature. But it was long time ago

we are in 12.09.2020 and they still haven't created that button, is it that hard?

* @Sebastian Florin * You do realize that posting here doesn't guarantee any development, right?

Besides, is this feature really needed? If you read the comments, you can see there are some questions. And addons.

* @-L0Lock- * Hi mate, where should i post? thank you!

hI MATE, Button to toggle all Addons On/Off , it's a good idea

i think we need click drag on the checkbox so enabling and disabling is quick. this way you can just click and drag all the addons to disable them but benefits also enabling them instead of just one click for each.

here are such tool blenderartists.org/t/blender-scripts-management-add-on-as-favourites-ik3d/623858 but needed ask author to update to 2.8

* @Bo Shi * Or someone to fork and upgrade.

When you load factory settings you're reseting other things also, and this is just a shortcut to enable all our production plugins installed and working, just enabling all makes easier to go and deselect just 2 or 3 addons if you dont need it, instead activate 30 that you need one by one, the toggle On/off is just to make more useful than just All on. Sorry, I thought I was clear with first explanation.

* @Oscar 'Nebe' Abad * Can you please give examples of when you really need it? If I have hardops, but I don’t use it, it doesn’t mean that it bothers me in any way. So why turn them off? An attempt to reduce the load on the blender when working on weak computers?

OscarNebeAbad Author

* @Sorda * Blender comes by Factory default with lots of addons disabled, add also your installed ones, so you must to enable it each time you have troubles with daily build and must to reset configuration, or even fresh installation, I use most of default addons less 3. And if you add this funcionality by addon as Bo Shi proposes then you have again the same trouble when reset the config, you must to look for that addon, activate, and then use the toggle to select all the rest.

* @Oscar 'Nebe' Abad * A means of specifying "favorite add-ons" that you can toggle on and off could work.

Of course, this is technically already possible for an individual user with a little bit of Python knowledge. You can write your own "Oscar Config" add-on that, when enabled, toggles on and off the add-ons (and other settings) that you would like for your work environment. Disabling this add-on could either reset factory defaults or just turn off non-default add-ons.

I've done something like this for myself before when writing and making teaching material. I needed to have a kind of "user profile" concept in Blender so I could quickly swap between my "get work done" Blender configuration and a "teach other people" Blender config. Maybe I'll look into resuscitating that.

Sorda

* @Oscar 'Nebe' Abad * These are some made-up problems. Anyway. Users will be voted in favor, if necessary.

I know is better to code it and propose as differential into developer side. The purpose of this is just a small button, almost invisible for all the users who dont ask himselfs how to toggle all at time, I think could be usefull in default blender also for all the people who develop, and try betas and so. All the scripts, addons and configs to make that are useful but spend time also, but you're right, If more people see it useful they upvote it.

The only time I needed to turn off all of my add-ons is when, because of some of them, my blender constantly crashed.

Nevertheless, the problem was deeper and only the reinstallation of the program with all the additions helped.

jason

For switching them off, how does this differ from loading factory defaults?

And when you say "all" on, do you really mean the entire library of add-ons, or just the ones the user specifically likes to use? How would the user define which ones those are?

Lauloque

I don't dare to picture how blender would look like if all addons were disabled. Cycles is still an addon right ?

jason

* @-L0Lock- * Yup.
